Hello, my name is Tina and I'm an essential oil addict. There, I said it! Also, let me apologize for this looong post ahead of time, I tend to go on and on about oils :)
I've recently fallen completely gaga, love at first drop, head over heels in love...with essential oils! Yes, I know I'm a nerd, but I found these little oily bottles that have helped make me feel more energetic and get through busy days, have supported my family's immune system when germs were getting passed around like wildfire, and have made my house smell amazing! I honestly have more energy than I've had in a while, and my days have even got busier! Most importantly to me, I've noticed an improvement in my kids, too, which is a total bonus!
Here’s how my family uses essential oils every single day!
Peppermint: It’s not just for Christmas! If I’m feeling sluggish, I’ll put a drop on the back or my neck, it wakes me right up! I also put a drop in my water along with a drop of lemon. If someone in your family has a fever, apply a drop or two (dilute with carrier oil if it’s a child) to the bottom of their feet to bring their fever down. My favorite use for peppermint: add I drop peppermint with 1 drop carrier oil and two drops carrier oil and apply to temples and forehead when you have head pressure. It’s amazing!
Lemon: I love the smell of lemon, it’s so energizing! Did you know lemon oil cuts through sticky things, like if your kids like to decorate your walls with stickers like mine do? You can add it to your cleaners for extra power and freshness. And a drop or two in your water takes it from boring to tasty.
Lavender: This was my first experience with essential oils and still one of my favorites. Lavender is notorious for its calming and relaxing abilities. At bedtime, everyone gets a drop of lavender on their feet, and I put a couple drops in the bedroom diffusers too. It can also help cuts and bruises! A drop mixed with a drop of peppermint and two drops of carrier oil applied to my forehead and temples is all I need when I get pressure in my head too! I kid you not, my 4 and 7 year olds ask for lavender by name at bedtime to help them wind down!
Thieves: Maybe you’ve heard of this one before, it’s amazing! Not only does Thieves smell amazing (think clove with cinnamon and rosemary), it does an amazing job at supporting your immune system. If hear so much as a sniffle from anyone in my family, I apply one drop of thieves into each of our feet and diffuse a couple drops too. I’ve given samples to the other moms at my son’s preschool and they love it too! Thieves is also a powerful cleaner, you can add a few drops to homemade cleaners to make your house smell amazing! We also apply to our feet a few times a week to support our immune systems too, and I have noticed a difference already!
Purification: At first I wasn’t so sure about the smell of this one, but now I can’t live without it! It is a natural deodorizer, and it eliminates orders better than Febreeze! We’ve even incorporated it into my husband’s carpet cleaning company as a natural deodorizer. At home, I diffuse 2-3 drops in the family room every day to combat odors of my messy kids and stinky Golden Retriever (she gets into everything!). I’ve also added a few drops to a spray bottle with water and sprayed around the house to freshen the air. You can even apply it topically or diffuse it outside to repel bugs because of the citronella in it. My favorite use for it though, is when someone in the family has a sore throat, I apply 1-2 drops with 1-2 drops carrier oil and apply to their throat, it is like magic! Bonus: It’s an amazing blemish treatment, just apply a drop topically!
Stress Away: This one does what it says! I wear it on my wrists instead of perfume and get compliments all the time. It smells like vanilla and lime and is sooo relaxing. I also diffuse 1-2 drops into the air if I’m having a rough day.
Panaway: This stuff is the most amazing thing I’ve ever used for pain in my knees and back from running! I just put a drop or two, massage it in, and within a couple of minutes I feel amazing! I love the smell of it too, I actually look forward to putting it on. It smells like wintergreen, clove and peppermint and is so refreshing.
Frankincense: This one has been around for a long time, right?! We all know it was brought to baby Jesus, so Lord it is good enough for me! It’s amazing for giving your skin the “glow”, so I add a drop to my serum every night. You can also add a couple of drops to your shampoo bottle for shiny hair. If you feel a cough coming on, diffuse Frankincense and apply a drop or two with equal parts carrier oil and apply to your neck and chest.
RC: Think of this like a natural Vic’s without the petroleum and chemicals. It’s great for stuffiness. I apply a drop or two with 1-2 drops carrier oil and apply it to my kid’s chest, neck, back, and feet when they are all stuffed up. You can also diffuse it into the air too. Just a whiff out of the bottle can help clear you up!
DiGize: Ok, this one is a little stinky, like fennel and ginger, but it does it’s job! When one of us has a tummy ache, I apply this right above the belly button and it’s great! Stinky, but great J
Copiaba Oil: This one can be applied to topically to soothe minor discomforts and it’s also believed to enhance the abilities of other essential oils!
If we're being honest with each other, until recently I was convinced that all essential oils are the same. I had been using store bought essential oils for over a year and while I loved the smell, I didn’t notice an improvement in our overall wellness. A friend told me about how Young Living oils have changed her life and her enthusiasm was so contagious that I ordered the starter kit that day!
So what’s the difference between Young Living and the other oils? I've done my research, and it comes down to purity and quality. They own their own farms, have a strict purity guarantee, and even use their own oils on the plants they grow to repel bugs instead of pesticides! I noticed the difference in quality almost instantly the first time I used them, the potency seemed much stronger than what I had been using. Also, Young Living offers Vitality oils that are safe to consume, where every other brand I've seen says for external use only.
Do you want to give these oils a try, too? There are a couple of ways!
Order Individual Oils
You can order individual bottles of the oils from Young Living’s website. They have lots to choose from, all with their own benefits! To check out the individual oils and the whole line of products, go here. Once you’ve picked out the oils you want to try, head here to order as a retail customer.
Purchase a Starter Kit
This is what I did because I wanted to have lots of oils to play around with, and I really wanted a diffuser! The starter kit comes with 11 oils and an amazing diffuser at a discounted price. Plus, when you order the starter kit, you will get 24% off the retail prices on your future orders!
The Premium Starter Kit comes with:
- Every essential oil I talked about above (11 total)
- Plus a home diffuser, a rollerball for your bottles (I use this on my Panaway to roll on when I have pain), lots of samples and literature to help you get started!
The kit is $160 which I know is a lot - but honestly after using it for a couple months and falling in love, it is a great deal! Plus, when you want to purchase anything in the future, you’ll get 24% off retail prices. There are NO membership fees, surprise credit card charges, commitments or fine print!
If you want to get started with these amazing little bottles too, here's the easiest way to do it:

- Select “Sign Up As: Young Living Wholesale Member” (This will get you the discount). If you want just want to start with one or two oils, check “Retail Member”
